I can't say that it's been a good month for writing, but I also can't say it's been a bad one.  I crossed 100,000 words on Sunday, which is farther than I've ever made it in a novel (not counting the really bad one that I finished when I was 13).  My average writing speed continues to creep up, including a new personal record of 7+ pages in an hour ( Read more... )

It's been a weird writing week.  My writers' group is doing Short Story in a Week, which we do in March and September of every year.  Every full week during the month, the moderator sends out two lists of five words each.  The goal is to write a complete short story in a week, using all five words on one list.  It's a huge amount of fun, and it's ( Read more... )

I'm now at 121 pages, or just over 30,000 words, and most of the jump from 25,000 was tonight.  I sat down at 6:30, and I've been writing like mad since then.  I wrote 3,000+ words, did two loads of laundry, emptied and reloaded the dishwasher, and made myself dinner.  Of course, dinner was going to be a baked potato, so "making dinner" involved ( Read more... )

Ha!  There's the 25,000 word mark for the current novel.  Not done by any stretch of the imagination, but rolling along quite nicely.  Forward momentum!

Today was the last day, and I did almost exactly 1500 words, for a grand total of 11,000 words in 8 days.  Since one of those was a zero day, not too shabby.

Soon there will be Statistics, analyzing my writing speed.  Why?  Because I like numbers, and they reveal interesting things.  And because Excel will do the hard work for me.

2,375 words yesterday.  I only managed to find about an hour and a half for writing, despite skipping the various New Year's Eve parties I'd been invited to.  Work was the big problem, and then grocery shopping.  I wouldn't normally put grocery shopping ahead of writing during BIAW, except that there was nothing to eat in the house.  Unless you ( Read more... )

Which means I've cracked 15,000 for the novel as a whole, or about 20% of the length I expect for the finished draft.  Maybe that will keep me motivated in January and February, when work eats my soul.

Only two days left for this time around, so I've got to get writing!
